Oyebola Okunogbe works as an Economist in the World Bank Development Research Group, with a focus on topics in the intersection of development economics, public economics, and political economy. One major area of her research is taxation as she seeks to understand how governments in lower-income countries can develop critical capacities to raise revenues to provide public services. The second major stream of her work focuses on the role of public policies in enabling productive economic activity of individuals.  The third area of focus (which is crosscutting with the first two) is to better understand how key aspects of identity (such as ethnicity and gender) have significant implications for social and economic outcomes of individuals. Oyebola is affiliated with the Bureau of Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). She serves as an Associate Editor at Journal of African Economics. Oyebola obtained her PhD in Public Policy and MPA in International Development from Harvard University, and her B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College. Her paper received the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy Best Paper Award in 2023.
